History. Douglas County, Georgia was established in 1870 during the Reconstruction of the South. The first public high school for the county was built in 1880 on the present day site of the National Guard Armory in Douglasville.
Douglas County High School. This was the first high school to open in Douglas County, built in the early 1880s. Most of the school was rebuilt due to a fire in the early 1990s, reopening in 1992. It has over 2000 students and offers over 40 clubs, extracurricular activities, and sports.

The Douglasville High School Heritage Museum was established in 2015, opened in 2017, and is housed in the first permanent structure for the former Douglasville High School, on property adjacent of the current Douglasville School of Arts & Recreation (Home to Light of the City) and next to the North Baldwin Center for Technology.
