Planned with a diverse economy in the 1890s and again in the early 1900s, Everett was soon dominated by lumbering, logging and shingle production, with commercial fishing and boatbuilding adding substantially to the industrial base.
Apr 17, 2024 · Originally inhabited by Snohomish and other Indians, the area was settled in 1862 and the city was laid out in 1890. It became the western terminus of the Northern Pacific Railway in 1893. Named for the son of C.L. Colby (an investor in the Everett Land Company), Everett attracted eastern capital and was promoted as a manufacturing centre.
Everett was incorporated in the spring of 1893, however development was soon curtailed by a nationwide financial panic. During the next five years many community services such as hospitals, schools, and libraries were founded in response to the needs of Everett's inhabitants.
