The Box (band) The Box is a new wave group from Montreal, Quebec. Founded in 1981, they achieved commercial success in Canada, recording four charting albums and 10 charting singles between 1984 and 1990. The group broke up in 1992, but a new line-up was founded in 2005. This iteration of the group has released two further albums.
In late 1996, Alex and the other four founding members of The Box Tops began to record an album that reflects early influences on the group. The album, ‘Tear Off’ was released in March 1998. From 1997 until his unexpected passing in 2010, Alex toured with the other original Box Tops.
In 1996, the original lineup reunited and performed worldwide until the tragic and untimely death of Alex in 2010. After a five year hiatus, Bill and Gary (the only two original members still playing) teamed up to bring The Box Tops’ music back to waiting audiences. What instruments did the original members play? The original band members' final record was released in 1971 and the band broke up, but a new Box Tops--the name wasn't owned by the band but by a management company--was assembled in 1972 and began releasing records. However, these "new" Box Tops records went nowhere, and the group was finally disbanded in 1974.
