Cairn arrives, naked and alone, in a hostile wilderness of unearthly, vicious beasts and must learn to survive as a savage.
Esau Cairn (Ironhand) – The protagonist, a man from Earth who ends up on Almuric due to a scientific experiment. Known as Ironhand among the Kothans. Thab the Swift – A warrior of Koth, initially guards Esau and later becomes somewhat of a guide and ally. Khossuth Skullsplitter – Chief of the Kothan tribe, a significant leader and warrior.

Thick with muscle, a bit of a social outcast, Esau is a true Howardian hero, and provides a relatable figure for the reader to experience the alien world of Almuric. The story and plot are fairly standard adventure fare.
