- Halle Bailey as Ariel. The youngest daughter of King Triton who dreams of being part of the surface world. Her life is irrevocably changed when she comes to the rescue of an injured prince.
- Jonah Hauer-King as Eric. The son of Queen Selina and a prince who is saved from drowning by a mysterious girl. Hauer-King is best known for starring in several TV miniseries, including “Howard’s End,” “Little Women” and “World on Fire.”
- Melissa McCarthy as Ursula. A powerful sea witch whose lower body is an octopus who seeks to steal Ariel’s voice. Melissa McCarthy is a comedian who has had memorable turns in “Mike & Molly” (for which she won an Emmy), “Bridesmaids” (for which she was nominated for an Oscar) and “Identity Theft.”

Plot. Ariel is a mermaid princess and the youngest daughter of King Triton, ruler of the merpeople of Atlantica. She is fascinated with the human world despite never having seen it, as Triton forbids all merfolk from surfacing there after Ariel's mother was killed by a human.

- Halle Bailey as Ariel. Ariel is the inquisitive young princess of the underwater kingdom of Atlantica. While she loves the great seas, she's completely enamored with what happens on land.
- Daveed Diggs as Sebastian. Sebastion is King Triton's loyal advisor. The crab will do whatever it takes to please his boss, which is often difficult as a friend of Ariel given the princess doesn't always obey her father's wishes.
- Jacob Tremblay as Flounder. Flounder is Ariel's best friend, who often cautions the princess against many of her explorations, despite accompanying her on nearly every one.
