    The label was founded in 1966 as Sire Productions by Seymour Stein and Richard Gottehrer, each investing ten thousand dollars into the new company.   5. The name Sire is an amalgam of the first two letters in the names Seymour and Richard. I particularly liked the name because I felt it paid homage to King Records, where I had learned so much. Our first logo was pulled out of a book and resembled a gothic lion that might have been off a bottle of beer.
