Khalibiev, who followed her to Paris, sets about seducing Raymond's blind daughter Gabrielle, planning to murder her after their marriage and run away with her money. Margot, a young woman working at a bar whom Khalibiev told of his plan, warns Gabrielle and Raymond.
Then there is the vulnerable blind girl (Brigitte Helm, best known as Maria in Fritz Lang's Metropolis ) who can do nothing but meekly accept what Fate offers her, which is a bit unfortunate as Fate turns out to be something of a heartless bastard in this instance.

The attempt was successful: the film is riveting and pleasant to watch, with excellent acting, especially the blind girl (Bridgitte Helm) and the villain Khalibiev.

In "The Love of Jeanne Ney" Rasp builds the disgusting character of Khalibiev, an informant who fingers the Bolsheviks in Ukraine, and in Paris not only does he stalk Jeanne and her lover, but uses Jeanne's young blind cousin to concrete his evil plans.
Although the undoubtedly beautiful Jehanne is the lead, she is overshadowed by Brigitte Helm (who later starred in the aforementioned Metropolis), who delivers a sensitive, heartbreaking performance as Jeanne’s blind cousin Gabrielle, who falls for Khalibiev’s ‘charms’.
