I really dislike Carson's attitude towards Molesley. He is extremely condescending and degrading in his manner towards Molesley especially when hiring him as a footman. Carson for all his airs and graces as a butler should know what one would feel if offered a job which is a step down rather than a step up.
Everyone wants Carson to bring in Molesley to replace Alfred, but Carson doesn’t think Molesley is sufficiently grateful enough to be offered the job. Molesley sees Alfred leave the train station and arrives at Downton, wondering about the job.
