The second Jack Irish mystery is even less involved than the first. The characters are still really strong and there are some sparkling moments of chemistry and dialogue but the film still drags and is hampered by some decidedly shoddy filmmaking and all of the worst consequences of being an ABC product. Black Tide is by no means essential.
