Thing I love about Slim Charles is he was the perfect successor to lead the Barksdale crew, when you look at how the final episodes show the next generation taking over everyone else's roles - Sydnor is the next McNulty, Rhonda is the next Judge Phelan, Michael is the next Omar, etc. Slim Charles had the best qualities of both Avon and Stringer.
The best TV show is so subjective as people like different things. I could argue that Fawlty Towers is one of the best TV series ever made but it's not a drama series. Likewise Dad's Army. There is no best, only what is best to you at that particular moment in time. Your own personal taste changes as you age.
