Jean Metzinger (n. 24 iunie 1883, Nantes, Franța – d. 3 noiembrie 1956, Paris, Franța) a fost un pictor, teoretician, scriitor, critic de artă și poet francez.. Lucrările sale dintre 1900 și 1904 par a purta influența neoimpresionismului în stilul unor lucrări ale lui Georges Seurat și Henri Edmond Cross. Între 1904 și 1907, a creat în stilurile divizionist și fauvist.
Jean Metzinger was a French painter and theorist. He studied at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Nantes and in 1903 he settled in Paris, where he was influenced by the Divisionism of Georges Seurat and Henri-Edmond Cross.
Jean Metzinger was a highly prolific painter. He was also a published writer and theorist, not only on the topic of Cubism (for which he was the first with Note sur la peinture, 1910), but on the arts in general, on other artists, such as Henri Le Fauconnier, Robert Delaunay, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Albert Gleizes and Alexandre Mercereau.
Jean Metzinger worked in several styles throughout his career, but he is best known as one of the first artists to practice cubism. "The Harbor," one of his largest cubist works, is divided into several vertical panels that depict a busy port from separate points of view.
