Oldham County is named in honor of Colonel William Oldham, Revolutionary War officer and prominent pioneer in the late 1780’s. We were the 74th county in Kentucky, formed from parts of neighboring counties, Jefferson, Henry and Shelby.
Oldham County was formed in 1823 from parts of Henry, Jefferson and Shelby Counties, earning its spot as the 74th Kentucky county. It was named for Colonel William Oldham (1753-1791), a distinguished Revolutionary War officer from Jefferson County.
