The movie was presenting a moral conundrum in a fictional setting (which is literally what sci fi does). It wasn't "justifying" it. And many people (like you) came away from the movie thinking about this concept, and disagreeing with it. Which is again, what sci-fi is supposed to do. Nothing about the movie "condoned" it, it simply presented it.
