David Gilmour is a British singer, songwriter and guitarist best known as a member of Pink Floyd. Hailing from Cambridge and Grantchester, Gilmour joined the iconic psychedelic rock band in late 1967, in the wake of the release of their debut album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, and just months before the exit of founding vocalist Syd Barrett.
