A town for the county seat of Clinton County was plotted and laid out between 1810 and 1812 as a result of land donated by David Faulker and Joseph Doan. On August 6, 1810 the name given to the town was Clinton. By court order, September 10, 1810 the name changed to Armenia. On December 31, 1810 the name was changed from Armenia to Mount Pleasant.
New Burlington is a former town located in Chester Township in the northwestern corner of Clinton County, Ohio, off Ohio State Route 380. The GNIS classifies it as a populated place. [1] It was acquired by the United States federal government when Caesar Creek was dammed and a reservoir created in the 1970s. [citation needed]
By March 1, 1810 Clinton County was officially established. The new county was named “Clinton” in honor of U.S. Vice President Georege Clinton. That same year the county’s population was recorded as 2,674. Clinton County was formed from land in portions of Warren and Highland Counties.
