The Soft Machine biography Formed in Canterbury, UK in 1966 - Disbanded in 1984 - Reformed in 2015 (SM members would reconvene under several monikers along the years) The band started playing as such in 1966 but their first record, a single, came out in 1967. The very last concert was in 1984 at Ronnie Scott's on July 30/31 and August 1-4.
Jun 30, 2010 · If the recent discovery of NDR Jazz Workshop (Cuneiform, 2010) demonstrated that the once considered "transitional" 1973 line-up of British psychedelia-cum-electric-avant- jazzers Soft Machine was, indeed, a fine enough standalone unit, then Esoteric's near- concurrent reissue of 1975's Bundles proves that the addition of guitarist Allan Holdsworth lit one serious fire beneath that same group.
Soft Machine are a British rock band from Canterbury formed in mid-1966 by Mike Ratledge, Robert Wyatt, Kevin Ayers, Daevid Allen and Larry Nowlin. As a central band of the Canterbury scene, the group became one of the first British psychedelic acts and later moved into progressive and jazz rock, becoming a purely instrumental band in 1971. [2]
