In civil cases, the plaintiff has the burden of proof. In a criminal case, the standard of proof is “beyond a reasonable doubt.”. The District Attorney has the task of proving to the jury each and every element of the crime beyond a reasonable doubt. This is the highest, most demanding standard in any court.
