  1. Oct 18, 2016 · One question I had specifically is whether I could just attach a multimeter lead to the d+ terminal with the exciter wire still attached (since the alternator is now installed and it would be a pain to unscrew that 8 mm nut from the top of the engine bay) and then ground the other lead and read the voltage that way with the ignition on.

  2. Sep 2, 2020 · The output of the half-wave rectifier is brought out to terminal D+ which is connected to the battery through the ignition light and the ignition switch. On the ignition switch being turned on, the excitation current, fed to the field winding via the D+ terminal, switches on the ignition light.

  3. Dec 3, 2005 · The alternator has 2 smaller terminals, W - which I reckon goes to the rev counter. There is only one wire which has a ring terminal on the end, which fits this accurately, and will not fit on any of the other terminals, so this one gotta be right, yes? Finally, D+. On this 'd+' terminal, is one wire slid on to a spade connector.

  4. May 10, 2020 · you can just put 12volts to the D+ terminal. If the alternator starts charging then you have an issue with that circuit. It uses to filament of the bulb to provide voltage to excite the field. Very small amount of current flows. The light will light up if there is a ground at the D+ terminal. Easiest way to check that light circuit is to bypass it.

  5. Jul 22, 2003 · Is your new alternator internal regulated? If so, there is a D+ terminal on the back. You need to connect that to the blue wire from your old alt. harness. It's function is to ground the dash bulb when the alternator isn't spinning. When it spins, the current switches to 12 volts positive and makes the light go out.

  6. Apr 9, 2011 · It is a Bosch alternator. Only two wires to alternator. The main wire and then a wire to the D+ terminal. needs 3-4 volts to that terminal to charge. Turn the key on and the voltage is there, start the tractor and there is no voltage to the D+. The light works with the key turned to on but the tractor not running. any ideas?
