Annually, about 300,000–500,000 people are being infected, with approximately 5000 deaths (Geisbert, 2018; Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC, 2019a; Patassi et al., 2017; Lehmann et al., 2017; Ehlkes et al., 2017).
