  4. Elgar's Enigma Variations were recorded several times during Sir Adrian's long, successful music career, as with Holst's Planet Suite and each of the Vaughan Williams nine Symphonies. To my ears, only the Monteux LSO recording of the Elgar dares reach as high and wide and handsome as Boult with the London Philharmonic in stereo.
