Tumbleweed is adapted from the novel Three Were Thoroughbreds by Kenneth Perkins, which was published 16 years earlier, but this is not the first adaptation of the novel to be done, because half-a-decade before, it was filmed as Relentless with Robert Young and Maguerite Chapman.
