And that's exactly what director Luc Besson did with "Lucy." Basically, he took a drug/transcendence movie from the 70s (perhaps an inverse of Altered States (1980)), pumped up the special effects and action, used good actors/acting and made a pretty darn good movie. Heck, he's even got some nice visual metaphors and witticisms going in the thing.
