Description: Located within beautiful Echo Canyon, Bobby's Rock Trail is a short hike that loops around a large cube-shaped sandstone rock, Bobby’s Rock. To find Bobby’s Rock Trail, start on the Echo Canyon Trail and veer to the right shortly after beginning your ascent. Hikers will immediately find a helipad and then Bobby’s Rock.
The preserve's second highest point (after Camelback) is Piestewa Peak at 2,608 feet. If you want to enjoy the panoramic views, there's only one way up: The extremely strenuous Summit Trail (#300), challenging hikers with a 1,200-ft elevation gain and rocky, unrelenting climb. It's one of Phoenix's best hikes, but it's a challenge.
Camelback Mountain is a hiking destination for both locals and tourists in the Valley and is located in the Camelback Mountain Echo Canyon Recreation Area between Phoenix, Scottsdale and Paradise Valley. Camelback became a Phoenix city park in 1968 and hiking it is one of the top 10 things to do in Phoenix according to Trip Advisor.
Climbing to the top of Camelback Mountain reveals a 360-view of the valley's mountain-led perimeter and the various Phoenix and Scottsdale neighborhoods that exist north, east, south and west of the base. While the south, Arcadia-facing side of the camel is home to residential properties and beautiful walking trails.
Got to Camelback Mountain at 5:45. Parking was already filling up…. Street parking available. Restrooms were available, fairly clean and stocked. Great views of the entire Phoenix/Scottsdale area from the top. The cactuses are interesting but the rest of the scenery was underwhelming for this Oregon gal. The bouldering was challenging.
