Margaret D. H. Keane (born Peggy Doris Hawkins, September 15, 1927 – June 26, 2022) [1] was an American artist known for her paintings of subjects with big eyes. She mainly painted women, children, or animals in oil or mixed media.
CREATOR OF “KEANE EYES” ALSO REFERRED TO AS “BIG EYED WAIFS.” SHE PAINTED SUCCESSFULLY FOR MORE THAN SIXTY (60) YEARS. Born in 1927 in Nashville, Tennessee, Margaret always loved to paint and draw since an early age. She first made her paintings famous in San Francisco’s North Beach in the 1950s.
