Streptomycin was originally purified from Streptomyces griseus and Neomycin from Streptomyces fradiae. Streptomycin and Neomycin act by binding to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome leading to inhibition of protein synthesis and death in susceptible bacteria.
