Of course, the gospel is a message of words since words are basic to the intelligent communication of God’s truth. As a message, the gospel is a witness to the historical work of God in the person and work of Christ for which the right words are crucial. However, this message is not merely a message of words.
The doctors though (society, addiction, his own thoughts or whatever) are trying to keep him alive in his misery, and he's fighting them cause he just wants to die and leave this world and the things hurting him. He does, eventually, but instead of leaving earth he's still held down by people trying to perfect him and bury him (his soul) alive.
