People see pop music as content, as enterteinment, unlike most other generas seen as art. Thus, people who listen to things like rock or even pop music by indie artists tend to dismiss pop music (specially pop music that's top 40). The biggest stars of pop music tend to be female artists.
But one thing I do not understand is why he is considered this musical genius. Kanye West is constantly referenced in pop culture as this great musician and how he produces so high quality stuff. I have listened to many of his hits, like Jesus Walks, Gold Digger, Diamonds, etc. But I they seem to be average songs at best.
There are many different reason people might hate most pop music. Some people don't like the simplicity of it, some people don't like the increasingly synthetic production style, some people don't like the whole aura of a manufactured "pop star." Its not going to be one thing. Its like if you asked, why do people hate politics?
