Sep 9, 2021 · This Greek woman statue is one of the most famous Greek statues of the Archaic period. Based on traces found on the marble, it was originally painted in bright colors and was sculpted from white marble. The 118 cm-high statue was found in an excavation site in 1886 near the Athenian Acropolis, in three separate pieces.

The Geometric age is usually dated from about 1000 BC, although in reality little is known about art in Greece during the preceding 200 years, traditionally known as the Greek Dark Ages.
