A Paris apothecary, he spent 10 years (1604–14) in Acadia, and at Port Royal (now Annapolis Royal, N.S.) he made some attempts to farm. Soon after his return to France, Hébert, at the urging of his friend Samuel de Champlain, again set forth for Canada.
