Oct 18, 1999 · The University of Memphis won the 1952 Tennessee NAIB basketball crown with a 45-38 win over Tennessee Tech at Cookeville. The Tigers earned the right to play in the National Tournament at Kansas City, Mo., where they defeated Baltimore, 60-39, before being ousted by Portland, 72-48, in the second round.
In 1924, Zach Curlin started coaching the West Tennessee State Normal School (now known as University of Memphis) basketball team. Called "Mr. Everything", Curlin would go on to also coach men's baseball, men's football and men's track team.
