The Riddler ( Edward Nigma, later Edward Nygma or Edward Nashton) is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by Bill Finger and Dick Sprang, and debuted in Detective Comics #140 in October 1948.
The Riddler is a criminal themed around riddles, puzzles and games, and frequent enemy of Batman. Co-created by Bill Finger and Dick Sprang for Detective Comics #140 (October 1948), Edward "E." Nigma (sometimes Nygma and Nashton ), he themes his crimes around these, even leaving clues for Batman and the police to solve hinting to his plans.

Possessing a genius-level intellect, the Riddler creates elaborate, sometimes Rube Goldberg-esque traps, and is even willing to use innocent civilians as bait. Although not physically imposing, the Riddler's brilliance, neurosis and lack of empathy make him an incredibly dangerous foe.
