    Hal Goodman (1915-1997) was a comedy writer for radio and television who spent lengthy stints with Bob Hope, Jack Benny, Johnny Carson, and others. He wrote material, with others, for Muppet appearances on several variety shows, including their The Flip Wilson Show visits and Kermit's guest host stint on The Tonight Show. He wrote Carson's monologues and introductory remarks for Academy Awards broadcasts, including his 1980 encounter with Miss Piggy.

    Goodman began writing on radio for Bob Hope and for the brief radio series of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis as well as The Sweeney and March Show. He joined Jack Benny in 1950 (and co-wrote an audition spinoff for Eddie Anderson's Rochester character) and followed Benny into television. He wrote for Milton Berle, Red Skelton, The Julie Andrews Hour, The Carol Burnett Show, and a host of others.
