Marika Sawyer (born December 12, 1983) is an American comedian and writer. Sawyer started her career as a writer on Saturday Night Live, where she wrote from 2006 to 2014, spanning the entire sixth generation, and the first season of the seventh generation, as well.
When she was hired to the show in 2006, she was the youngest writer they hired the season, as she was only 22 at the time. It was also a rebuilding year for SNL, as 5 cast members had either left or had been dropped due to budget cuts, as well as a new Weekend Update anchor and director. Sawyer was named as a writing supervisor at the beginning of the show's 38th season in 2012, and kept that position, until she left the show two years later, in 2014, after eight years there.
While at SNL, she mainly worked alongside fellow writers John Mulaney and Simon Rich.
Since leaving SNL in 2014, Sawyer has written for various projects, inclulding the 30th Annual Film Indepedent Spirit Awards (2015), Maya & Marty (2016), and most notably, What We Do in the Shadows (2019-present).
