By Ryan Opaz. A few months ago, I attended Spain’s largest wine show [FENAVIN-> http://www.fenavin.org/entrada.php%5D, the equivalent to France’s [VINEXPO-> http://www.vinexpo.com], and was fortunate enough to taste through some wines with the well-known wine exporter Christopher Cannan.
Clos Figueras is located in Gratallops, within the Priorat Qualified Designation of Origin. The property was purchased in 1997 by Charlotte and Christopher Cannan. Clos Figueras owns an original estate of old Garnacha and Cariñena vineyards. In addition, other varieties such as Syrah, Cabernet and Viognier have been planted.
Christopher Cannan, whose winery Clos Figueras we visited, was among these pioneer winemakers who recognised the potential of Priorat and started exporting the wines of the region.
