Barry Sandler is an American screenwriter and film producer, best known for writing Making Love, the first Hollywood film to deal with homosexuality. He also teaches screenwriting at the University of Central Florida and serves as an Artistic Director to Outfest, a gay and lesbian film festival.
Barry Allen Sadler (November 1, 1940 – November 5, 1989) was an American soldier, singer-songwriter and author. Sadler served as a Green Beret medic, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served in the Vietnam War from late December 1964 to late May 1965.
Nov 6, 1989 · Barry Sadler, who co-wrote and sang the hit "Ballad of the Green Berets", was shot in the head in 1988 while training Contras in Guatemala. He suffered brain damage and died in 1989 at age 49.
