Edmond Eugène Alexis Rostand ( UK: / ˈrɒstɒ̃ /, [ 1] US: / rɔːˈstɒ̃, ˈrɒstænd /, [ 2][ 3] French: [ɛdmɔ̃ ʁɔstɑ̃]; 1 April 1868 – 2 December 1918) was a French poet and dramatist. He is associated with neo-romanticism and is known best for his 1897 play Cyrano de Bergerac.

Edmond Rostand Biography. Edmond Rostand was born in Marseilles, France, on April 1, 1868. When he was twenty-two years old, he married the poet, Rosemond Gerard, and presented his first book, a volume of poems, to her as a wedding gift.
