In 2021, Williams premiered his second violin concerto with the BSO at Tanglewood along with soloist Anne-Sophie Mutter, for whom he composed the work. In January 1980, Williams was named 19th music director of the Boston Pops Orchestra, succeeding the legendary Arthur Fiedler.
He was the Boston Pops’ music director for over a decade. Any orchestra that presents Williams conducting his own music—film scores and his more recent concertos—will fill the hall. And at orchestras across the country, he often donates his conducting services at fundraisers and benefit concerts.
