The Sibelius Academy – established in 1882 – is one of the largest music academies in Europe, and as of 2013, it has been one of the three academies of the University of the Arts Helsinki (Uniarts Helsinki).
The Sibelius Academy, located in the centre of Helsinki, was founded in 1882, and was given its present name in 1939. The name is derived from Jean Sibelius who holds a supreme position in the history of Finnish music. Sibelius was a student at the Academy, named Helsingin Musiikkiopisto at the time, in 1885–90.
Sibelius Academy is the highest-level music educator in Finland. The academy trains artists skilled in independent artistic work, teachers, and other music professionals.

Nov 3, 2019 · Applicants from all countries are welcome to apply to the Sibelius Academy. Do I have to know Finnish to apply to Sibelius Academy? Only our Music Education and Cultural Study of Music programmes require skills in Finnish and/or Swedish.
The Swedish violinist Cecilia Zilliacus has received a professorship at the University of Helsinki's Sibelius Academy in Finland. Zilliacus has previously held teaching positions in Sweden at Stockholm's Royal College of Music and the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.
