Joseph Shuster ( / ˈʃuːstər / SHOO-stər; July 10, 1914 – July 30, 1992), [3] [4] [5] was a Canadian-American comic book artist best known for co-creating the DC Comics character Superman, with Jerry Siegel, in Action Comics #1 ( cover-dated June 1938). Shuster was involved in a number of legal battles over ownership of the Superman character.

In 1933, along with writer Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster created the Superman comic book character. In the original version Superman's mild-mannered alter ego, Clark Kent, worked for the Daily Star, which was patterned after the Toronto Star.
