Shemp Howard (born Samuel Horwitz; March 11, 1895 [1] – November 22, 1955), was an American comedian and actor. He was called "Shemp" because "Sam" came out that way in his mother's thick Litvak accent.

He and a friend hailed a taxicab and hopped in for the ride to Howard's North Hollywood home, as the Three Stooges writes. He reportedly had just lit a cigar when he suffered a massive heart attack and died.
Jun 5, 2020 · On November 23, Shemp spent the evening with friends. He was "telling jokes when he suddenly dropped his head, leaned against one of the men, closed his eyes and, with a smile on his face, died," Moe related. Shemp was 60 years old when he left The Three Stooges for the last time.

After Curly had to leave the act because of his illness, Shemp become one of The Three Stooges. Shemp not only made 77 Stooge shorts, but also a feature film, “Gold Raiders” (1951). Shemp also appeared in the TV pilot “Jerks of All Trades.”.
