Since 1848 over 20,000 students have been educated at Girard College. Throughout its history, the school has experimented and adapted its program in service to Girard’s original mission to educate children to become productive citizens.
Girard College opened its doors in 1848. Born more than 250 years ago, Girard could not have imagined the ways in which our country and its citizens would change over time. Sometimes that change has been tumultuous.
Welcome to Girard College, one of Philadelphia’s most historic sites. Our beautiful 43-acre campus is home to the city’s only full-scholarship boarding school, a pristine museum collection from the early American period, incredible architecture including a national historic landmark, and a world-renowned pipe organ.
Eligibility. All accepted students receive full scholarships that are renewed yearly. Our unique program has very specific eligibility criteria. To be eligible for admission, candidates must meet all the following requirements: Student must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
