    After making his stage debut, the newly named Patrick Wymark toured South Africa with the Old Vic theatre company, before spending two years directing plays as "artist in residence" at the drama department at Stanford University, California. In 1954, he was one of three guest directors at the San Diego National Shakespeare Festival.
