Mark S. Seidenberg is Vilas Research Professor and Donald O. Hebb Professor of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and a Senior Scientist at Haskins Laboratories. Aug 13, 2024 · This treatment of the letter sounds in early reading instruction is fundamentally different from the treatment of “phonemes” in a lot of PA instruction. The letter sounds are only important for how they are used in a real reading task, reading aloud. They aren’t the building blocks of spoken words.
