Jacopo Peri (born August 20, 1561, Rome or Florence [Italy]—died August 12, 1633, Florence) was an Italian composer noted for his contribution to the development of dramatic vocal style in early Baroque opera. Under the early sponsorship of the Florentine Cristofano Malvezzi, Peri had published by 1583 both an instrumental work and a madrigal.

Jacopo Peri. 1561-1633 Composer and singer. Peri was born in Rome but moved to Florence at an early age. He sang and played organ, and by 1588 was employed at the Medici court. Peri is often associated with development of the Florentine Camerata, but their is no direct evidence that he was actually a member of the group.
