Leon Shamroy, A.S.C. (July 16, 1901 – July 7, 1974) was an American film cinematographer known for his work in 20th Century Fox motion pictures shot in Technicolor. He and Charles Lang share the record for most Oscar nominations for Cinematography.

Jul 10, 1974 · Leon Shamroy, who won the Academy, Award for cinematography four times, died Saturday in the Motion Picture and Television Country Hospital in Woodland Hills, Calif. He was 72 years old.
Jul 3, 2014 · Shamroy was Oscar nominated for his stunning camerawork on Preminger’s film which he completed in 53 days as well as the same year’s Cleopatra on which he labored for over a year. He won his fourth career Oscar for the latter.

Leon Shamroy's films of the 1950s demonstrate a mastery of Technicolor. He is a colorist, and he only achieved his best work with the advent of color in the cinema.
Distinguished American cinematographer, best known for his lavish color work on epics and musicals of the 1940s and 50s. Shamroy began shooting features films in the late 1920s and, after a seven-year stint with Paramount (1932-39), spent most of his career at 20th Century-Fox.
