    Eugene "Gene" Blakely was born on June 8, 1921, in Osceola, Iowa. He was an American actor who worked on and Off Broadway in the 1940's and 1950's. Mr. Blakely had roles in "The Desperate Hours," "Teahouse of the August Moon" and "The Male Animal," among other shows. In addition to his stage work, he also appeared in the movies "The Sand Pebbles" and "The Prisoner of Second Avenue," and in the television series "All in the Family," "Maude" and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show."

    Blakely died of bone cancer on November 23, 1987, at the Greater Community Hospital of Creston, Iowa. He was 66 years old and lived in Phoenix. There were no immediate survivors.
