FISHMAN, Duke (1906-1977), the "Official Greeter" at Avalon, Santa Cata lina Island, for four decades. He was born Marcus Leo Fishman July 15, 1906 in the Philippines, to American parents. They moved to Hong Kong, China when he was an infant. His parents both died by the time he was 5, and he was forced to live in a Chinese orphanage.
Duke Fishman (1906-1977) was a Filipino-American actor and stuntman who appeared in many TV shows and movies. He was known for his shaved head, his role as Cornerman Man on The Doris Day Show, and his lifeguard work in Avalon, California.

For 42 years, Duke Fishman worked every summer as a lifeguard on Avalon’s beaches, and was well-known for strolling barefoot along the town’s Front Street, wearing little more than a skin-tight swimsuit and a Captain’s cap cocked jauntily on his head.
