Josie was the youngest student to study with respected acting teacher from Brooklyn, Paul E Richards, for twenty years until his passing. He had been referred to as Lee Strasberg's "right hand man." At the age of twenty four, Davis auditioned in front of Hollywood heavyweights, Martin Landau, Mark Rydell, Shelley Winters, and Barbara Bain.
