Myer (or Meyer) Prinstein (born Mejer Prinsztejn, December 22, 1878 – March 10, 1925) was a Polish American track and field athlete who held the world record for the long jump in 1900 and won four gold medals in three Olympic Games for the long jump and triple jump.
Ending his Olympic career with an impressive four gold medals and one silver medal, Myer Prinstein is still, over 106 years later, the most decorated Olympic athlete from central New York. Unfortunately, he is also perhaps the most forgotten and unheralded American Olympian in our history.
Myer Prinstein was a Jewish athlete who set world records and won gold medals in the long jump and triple jump at three Olympic Games. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1897 and practiced law and business in New York.
After graduating from Syracuse in 1901, Prinstein joined the Irish-American AC and at the 1904 Olympics became the only man to ever win the long jump and triple jump at the same Olympics. Besides his Olympic successes, Prinstein won the AAU long jump title four times between 1898 and 1906.
Meyer Prinstein was an American jumper who won three gold medals in Olympic competition in the early 20th century. As a student at Syracuse University, Prinstein set a world record in the long jump, 7.24 metres (23 feet 8.875 inches), in 1898.
