May 3, 2024 · The Exit Glacier Area is open year-round. In late-October to mid-May, the road to Exit Glacier is inaccessible to cars, usually due to snow. The road often remains closed through early May, so be sure to check current conditions if you are visiting during the off season (fall through spring).
Exit Glacier is a glacier derived from the Harding Icefield in the Kenai Mountains of Alaska [1] and one of Kenai Fjords National Park's major attractions. It is one of the most accessible valley glaciers in Alaska and is a visible indicator of glacial recession due to climate change.
With just a 10-to-15-minute drive out of Seward, you can hike right up to the Kenai Fjords National Park's Exit Glacier and experience the dense, blue ice while listening to it crackle. One of the most visited glaciers in the world, Exit Glacier earned its name from grateful backcountry travelers.
Exit Glacier. Our family loved the hike to Exit Glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park. Much of the trail is paved and quite easy so it is appropriate for all ages and abilities. The markers that show the glacier position by year are very informative as to just how much this area has changed.
May 3, 2023 · The Exit Glacier hike is an easy hike with a single train, a couple of viewpoints, and walk loops in nature. There are some steps on Glacier Overlook Trail. HIKING LENGTH: 1-mile hike to the Glacier View Loop | 1.8 miles to the Glacier Overlook Trail | 8.2 miles to the Harding Icefield Trail.

Enjoy this 2.2-mile loop trail near Seward, Alaska. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 57 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are May through October.

While it’s undeniably the easier of the two hikes, don’t let that tempt you to write it off: The views from this mostly flat, easy trail are absolutely stunning, and well worth a visit by anybody and everybody.
May 3, 2024 · The 8.2-mile round trip Harding Icefield Trail is a spectacular day hike leaving from the Exit Glacier Area. Starting on the valley floor, the trail winds through cottonwood and alder forests, passes though heather filled meadows and ultimately climbs well above tree line to a breath-taking view of the Icefield.

Exit Glacier is the only area of Kenai Fjords National Park accessible by road (summer only). Trailside signs mark the glacier’s location over the previous century, illustrating its dramatic retreat.
